Four Elements Hotel Amsterdam has obtained the BREEAM-NL “Excellent” certificate, with a score of 70.11%

Four Elements Hotel Amsterdam is proud holder of the BREEAM-NL Excellent certificate, one of the most prestigious sustainability labels for buildings in Europe. This recognition means that our hotel belongs to the top of sustainably designed and constructed buildings in the Netherlands.

What is BREEAM?

BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) is the most used and internationally recognised assessment method for the sustainability of buildings. The method looks at everything: from energy consumption to choice of materials, water management, indoor climate health, ecology, waste separation, and transport.

An “Excellent” BREEAM score, like the one attained by Four Elements Hotel, is reserved only for buildings that perform exceptionally well on all fronts.

BREEAM-NL Excellent is more than a label. It is our promise to the world.

The official BREEAM certification shows that our building:

Is more than 80% energy-efficient
Achieves an exceptional score in management, waste management, and water savings
Provides plenty of daylight and a healthy indoor climate without traditional air conditioning
Makes use of circular and reused materials
And rightfully earns the predicate “Excellent” — with a total score of 70.11%

At the time of assessment, our building was known under the project name “Hotel Breeze,” the original name of the hotel.

Meanwhile, the name is changed into Four Elements Hotel Amsterdam, a name that better fits our identity and concept: Earth, Water, Fire & Air.

Why this is unique

Four Elements Hotel Amsterdam is the first hotel in the world that is energy-positive thanks to natural technologies. The combination of:

-The EWF concept from Professor Ben Bronsema

-Full energy generation via solar panels on façades and roof

-Building materials with minimal environmental impact (such as reused concrete and wood)

-Innovative features such as a birdhouse with camera, an insect hotel, and an herb garden on the terrace

makes our building an international example of sustainable tourism and circular construction.

The BREEAM Excellent certification is the formal confirmation that our vision is not only ambitious but also measurable and sustainably recognized.

Concept

Four Elements Hotel Amsterdam is the first hotel in the world that runs on the Earth, Wind & Fire concept and serves as an example project for sustainable architecture. The hotel demonstrates that comfort, luxury and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand. The building is nearly Zero Energy: it generates approximately as much energy as it uses. It is BREEAM Excellent–certified and is a practical example for students, engineers and architects worldwide.
