At Four Elements Hotel Amsterdam we strive for a seamless integration of sustainability, from building to furniture.That is why we chose a conference table and chairs from the Plastic Whale by Vepa collection: circular office furniture made from plastic from the Amsterdam canals.
What makes this furniture special?
• The Plastic Whale Boardroom table is completely made from recycled PET bottles from Amsterdam canals (about 1,000 bottles per table).
The tabletop consists of PET-foam and PET felting, combined with Dutch PEFC-certified oak wood and FSC-birch multiplex.
• For the chairs, such as the Whale Tail Chair, 67 recycled PET bottles are used per chair for the backrest and felt material. The frame is made of locally remelted steel waste.
Impact and circular principles
Plastic Whale annually fishes more than 40,000 PET bottles out of the canals of Amsterdam, together with companies, residents and volunteers. With these raw materials, high-quality furniture is made. A large part of the proceeds is also invested in initiatives against plastic pollution worldwide.
Vepa develops and produces the furniture line entirely in the Netherlands, in their own factories, using modular designs aimed at repair and reuse. This way they take steps toward a waste-free production chain.
